In north-east Thailand, Isaan
province covers one third of the country’s land mass. Bordered on its
northern edge by the Mekong River and Laos, it’s an agricultural region
whose population is mostly composed of rice farmers. With 110,000
inhabitants, Udon Thani is Isaan’s largest city. The local airport (with
flights to Bangkok and Chiang Mai, Laoi) is built on the site of a former
U.S. air base. From here, bombing raids were launched across into Laos and
Vietnam. Thai food dishes are a lot cheaper—between $1.47 and $2.20. Menu
choices include local favorites as Khow Tom Gung (shrimp rice porridge) and
Pat Grapow (chicken or pork fried in basil and chili). “Eat street” and it’s
even less—but be aware that some Isaan food might not tempt your tastebuds.

The upstream string of barge

river in the darkness. In the evening, the heat from the scorching tropical
summer abated slightly. After midnight, the really cool air materialised,

Little Eden is situated in
the thickly forested and mountainous Mae Hong Son Province (Northwest
Thailand). The Mae Hong Son Province borders Burma on two sides and has some
of the most beautiful natural scenery in Thailand. There you will find huge
limestone caves, spectacular waterfalls and an incredible mosaic of ethnic
groups. Little Eden is located in the Shan village Pangmapa (Soppong), at
the bank of the Nam Lang River. Pangmapa is a trading and market centre for
the many hilltribe villages in the surrounding area. The population is about
40% Burmese Shan, 40% hilltribe (mostly Lisu, Lahu and Karen), and 20% Thai.
We offer eight teak A-frame
bungalows (bathroom, two beds), the Jasmine Room in the Riverside House (bathroom,
double bed), two rooms in the Main Building (one twin room, one room with
double bed, shared bathroom) and the Lotus House (living room, bedroom,
bathroom, balcony, king-size bed).
No detail was overlooked in
ensuring authenticity when we built this Lahu (a local hilltribe) style
bungalow- the Lahu Lounge. Just like a real Lahu house, the house is built
up on stilts, it has no en-suite bathroom, one window, a door, you sleep on
a kapok futon on the floor, and you get a woven grass mat to sit on. We did
use a teak (rather than bamboo) floor to make it a bit more comfortable, and
also to account for the relatively larger mass of westerners as compared to
Lahu people. The only modern luxuries you get with this bungalow are clean
sheets, blankets, and towels and an electric reading lamp.
Also possibly violating
strictest authenticity of design is the availability of flush toilets and a
hot shower, but don't worry – we didn't spoil the design of the Lahu Lounge
by putting in an en-suite toilet...you have to walk about 20 metres for
these modern conveniences. The Lahu Lounge costs 150 baht/night for one
person, or 200 baht/night for two people, and as always the seventh night is
free for a one week stay.
At the Thai House Resort your

farm). These houses are built on a slope with all the characteristics found
in a traditional Thai farm house. All of them have a veranda with

with an old-fashioned wooden latch. The color scheme is beige and brown
making it balanced with the lush greenery surrounding the compund. The
bathroom is one of open-roof to create maximum air flow making you fell like

The Palm Garden Lodge is a
small family-orientated Resort at the foot of the Khao Yai National Park,
Thailand's oldest National Park. It is located close to Highway 33 in Ban
Kon Khuang, a small part of the province capital Prachin Buri. The busses
from Bangkok toward Aranyaprathet, from where they continue their ride to

Mountain View Guest House,
owned and managed by Meao and Malcolm, is situated in the quiet countryside
just 4km from the historic Old City of Sukhothai in Thailand. Surrounded by
the ancient ruins of Wats (temples and monasteries), some of them built as
early as 1200-1300AD, the Guest House offers a simple but comfortable place
to stay while you spend a few days exploring this fascinating area.
There are 6 double rooms,
with a choice of air conditioning or ceiling-fan, each with an en-suite
bathroom with hot shower. A large swimming pool is open year-round, and
makes a perfect place to spend the hottest part of the day. We also offer a
wide variety of both Thai and Western meals at the MV Restaurant opposite
the Ramkhamhaeng National Museum. If your favourite Thai dish isn't on our
menu, our expert Thai chef can make just about anything on request!
Each of our 6 guest rooms has
a double bed, hot water shower, western style flushing toilet, refrigerator,
air-conditioning. fan, wardrobe, personal electronic safe and a 21 inch
colour TV showing cable TV channels, including all Thai channels, BBC world,
RAI, TV5, DW TV and 24 hour movie channels in both English language and Thai
language.
Cleanliness is important to
us. Our rooms are cleaned daily and fresh towels, sheets and pillow cases
are given everyday. We use cotton duvets that are machine washable and every
few months we air the matresses in the garden under the sun.
